August 27, 2025 | Men's Golf
Ben Griffin, a two-time All-America and All-ACC honoree as a Tar Heel, was selected as a captain's pick to represent the United States in the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Â
Captain Keegan Bradley made the announcement on Wednesday in advance of the Ryder Cup, which will be held September 26-28 at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Â
Griffin joins a U.S. squad that includes Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns.
Â
Griffin, who grew up in Chapel Hill, played for the Tar Heels from 2014-18. He won three tournaments, set UNC's single-season scoring average record in 2015 and had the lowest career average at 72.02.
Â
He finished the PGA TOUR's regular season sixth in the points standings for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, then placed T9, T12 and T10, respectively, in the three postseason tournaments. Griffin won twice this year, including the Zurich Classic in New Orleans (a team competition with Andrew Novak) and the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth.
Â
Among his 10 top-10 and 15 top-25 finishes this season were the two victories, a second place at The Memorial, a tie for eighth in the PGA Championship, a tie for 10th in the U.S. Open and a tie for 10th in the season-ending TOUR Championship last weekend in Atlanta. He earned $9,990,352 in 28 starts.
Â
Griffin is the second Tar Heel to play in the Ryder Cup. Davis Love III played in six (1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2002 and 2004) and was captain twice (2012 and 2016).
