Madera & Stevenson Among Finalists For ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina infield stalwarts Alex Madera and Luke Stevenson have been selected as finalists for the 2025 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove team, the organizations announced on Monday.

Madera, a finalist at shortstop, and Stevenson, one of three catchers on the list, were elite defenders all season for the Tar Heels. The duo combined to help the team lead the nation in defensive runs saved.

Starting all 61 games in the six hole, Madera was as close to an automatic out as they come. On the season he was responsible for 209 outs and 30 double plays with only six errors committed, good for a .972 fielding percentage. He was a finalist for the award last year as a second baseman.

The man behind the dish, Stevenson started all but three games at catcher for the Heels (slotting in as DH in those contests). He is nationally renowned as one of the best pitch framers in the country and he was an absolute terror to anyone who dare tread on his base paths. He threw out 35% of his attempted base stealers this season, was involved in two double plays, and had a pair of pick offs to boot.

The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball. The final team, which will be announced on Wednesday, will consist of nine members—one from each infield position, one pitcher, and three outfielders.
