Tar Heels Scrimmage Walters State On Friday

Chapel Hill, NC--Â The North Carolina Tar Heels cruised to a comfortable win over the Walters State Senators in a 12-inning scrimmage before a very nice crowd on Friday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
Offensive Highlights:Â Gavin Gallaher was 3-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Gallaher ripped a 397-foot homer to right center as well as a double. Rom Kellis V, who had a double, was 3-5 with four RBI and one run scored.
Cooper Nicholson was 2-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Nicholson belted a 360-foot homer to left. Michael Maginnis had a double as he went 2-4 with one run scored. Jake Schaffner was 2-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Pitching Highlights:Â Nine pitchers held the Senators to three base hits. Jason DeCaro retired all six batters her faced, striking out four of them. Folger Boaz also retired the side in order twice while also striking out four. Boaz threw 16 of his 22 pitches for strikes.
Caden Glauber struck out all three batters he faced as 14 of his 17 pitches were strikes. Talan Holiday struck out three while walking one in his one inning on the mound. Nine of Tom Chmielewski's 12 pitches were strikes in his 1-2-3 inning.
The Tar Heels will  kick off the annual intrasquad Fall World Series on Monday, Oct. 6 at 2:15 p.m. with game two on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 2:00 p.m. and an if-necessary game three on Thursday, Oct. 9 at a TBD time.
