David Ford Shoots 69 In Final Round, UNC 6th In Urbana Regional

North Carolina shot 1 under par in the final round Wednesday and finished sixth in the NCAA Urbana Men's Golf Regional at the Atkins Golf Club in Urbana, Ill.

The Tar Heels did not advance to next week's NCAA Championship. Oklahoma State and Illinois tied for first at 15 under par, UNLV placed third at 6 under, Troy was fourth at 2 under and Texas Tech claimed the fifth and final spot at 1 under.

Carolina shot 292-285-282 to finish 7-over 859.

The Tar Heels entered the final round 10 strokes out of the top five but shot 10 under par on the front nine to climb into fifth place. UNC then played the back nine in 9 over, including 6 over on the final three holes. Meanwhile, Troy played its 15th and 16th holes (on the front side) in 7 under par.

David Ford, the No. 1 player in the nation, led UNC with a 2-under 69. Ford, competing today in his final round as a Tar Heel, shot 73-67-69 for 4-under 209 to tie for 11th place.

Keaton Vo (71-73-71), Sihan Sandhu (73-71-71) and Maxwell Ford (75-74-71) all shot even par in the final round.

Vo and Sandhu tied for 27th place at 2-over 215 and Maxwell Ford, also playing in his final college tournament, tied for 46th at 7-over 220.

Michigan's Hunter Thomson (69-67-67) was medalist at 10-under 203 to also earn the lone individual spot in the NCAA Championship.
