April 7, 2025 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Kaya Forbes earned a spot in the 2025 Gymnastics National Championships as an individual in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 17- 19.
Forbes will compete on vault, and she is the first Tar Heel to earn a bid since 2018 when Morgan Lane (All-Around) represented Carolina. Forbes has found her groove in the postseason, specifically on vault. During the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, she notched a career-high (9.925) on vault, which moved her into third all-time in Carolina history. Forbes followed up that performance with a 9.875 as the anchor, which was the highest score of the vault rotation for the Tar Heels during the Tuscaloosa regional. She has scored above 9.800 on vault ten times this season.
Forbes also competed on the floor, notching a 9.825, which was tied for the team lead during that rotation with Elly King, a sophomore who made her Carolina debut in that routine during the Tuscaloosa regional. Forbes competed in her 85th career routine this past weekend.
Selection Criteria:
There will be a total of eight teams, four all-around competitors and 16 event specialists advancing from regional competition to the national championships. The top two teams, the top all-around competitors, and the top event specialists on each event (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships
