BERKELEY, CALIF.—Tenth-ranked California defeated No. 47 North Carolina, 4-0, in Atlantic Coast Conference men's tennis action at the Hellman Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon. It was the first meeting between the two schools as ACC opponents.

Playing without usual No. 2 singles starter Constantinos Djakouris for the second match in a row and continuing to miss injured veterans Patrick Schoen and Logan Zapp, the Tar Heels lost their third consecutive match and fell to 12-9 overall this season, 6-6 in the ACC.

Cal won its 11th straight match while improving to 18-2, 10-2 ACC.

The Golden Bears won a back-and-forth doubles point to take a 1-0 lead to begin the afternoon's team scoring.

Cal's #28 duo of Theo Dean and Carl Emil Overbeck defeated UNC's #80 Vladislav Melnic and Chris Xu at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, in the day's first finish. Alex Chang and Mikey Wright followed with a 6-4 win over UNC's Diego Jarry and Anthony Wright at No. 2.

In singles play, the Bears took a 2-0 lead when the 11th-ranked Overbeck beat Melnic by injury retirement, 6-1, 1-0, at the No. 1 position.

Cal won the first set in all six singles matches and went on to pick up wins at the No. 5 slot over Nick Mangiapane and at No. 4 over Jarry to provide the final, 4-0, margin.

• The Tar Heels will return home and host Duke in the regular season finale for both schools next Saturday April 12 at the Chewning Tennis Center. The Senior Day match will mark the final home regular season appearances for Carolina's class of departing seniors and graduate students: Melnic, Jarry, Logan Zapp and Dennis Perumov.
