Softball Clinches Big Series Over Georgia Tech With 8-3 Win

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- North Carolina softball slugged its way to the series victory against Georgia Tech with an 8-3 win on Sunday afternoon.

The victory gave Carolina its 50th victory against the Yellow Jackets and they improved to 6-4 in the last ten matchups.

The Tar Heels scored first via an error from Georgia Tech's shortstop that sent Alex Coleman and Lexie Roberts home.
Â
Roberts has now reached base in 16 straight games and extended her hit streak to eight games. Her on base streak is the longest of any Tar Heel this season.

Coleman's hot day continued, driving in Roberts in back-to-back plate appearances. The offensive outburst continued for Carolina in the bottom of the fourth. The bases were loaded for the national leader in RBI, Kat Rodriguez and she delivered driving home Coleman and Roberts to extend the lead to six.

Carlie Myrtle doubled to score two to push the lead to 8-0 in the fifth. It was her tenth multi-hit game of the season and broke up the tie for third most games with multiple RBI with Kiannah Pierce with her 13th of the season.

Nikki Harris came out of the bullpen after 4.3 innings of pitching by Kenna Raye Dark and picked up her first save of the season.

Harris continued to shine this weekend. Her final line against Georgia Tech was 11.1 innings pitched, six strikeouts, a win, a save, all while only allowing three earned runs.

Carolina has a quick turnaround as it heads to UNCW for a midweek game on Tuesday, April 15. Softball will honor its seniors next week against NC State for the final home series at Anderson Stadium for the 2025 season.
