
Dekanoidze, Valahovic Earn All-ACC Accolades

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two North Carolina gymnasts in Lali Dekanoidze and JoJo Valahovic have been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team, as announced by the league on Monday ahead of the ACC Championships.
Dekanoidze earned All-ACC Team praise for the second straight year on the uneven bars. Valahovic, who received the honor for the first time in her career on vault, is one of two freshmen who garnered All-ACC recognition.Â
The All-ACC Gymnastics Team features the top six gymnasts on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise based on national qualifying score (NQS) following the conclusion of the regular season. The top two all-arounders also earned first team honors.Â
A senior, Dekanoidze ranks second in the conference with an NQS of 9.930 on bars, which also ranks second in the Southeast Region and eighth in the nation. She matched her personal record of 9.975 on Jan. 24 to tie her own program record for the fourth time in her career.Â
Dekanoidze is one of 16 gymnasts in the country to record a 9.975 or better during the regular season. Seven of her 10 bar routines this season have been at 9.9 or above.Â
Valahovic capped off the regular season with an NQS of 9.860 on vault which ranks fifth in the conference. Seven of her 11 vaults so far have been 9.8 or higher and her average score stands at 9.809. The freshman's career-high 9.9, which is tied for fourth all-time in school history, was done on Feb. 14.Â
She also won four ACC Newcomer of the Week awards this season, the most by a rookie in ACC Gymnastics history.Â
The Tar Heels are preparing for the 2025 ACC Championships on Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m. ET. The meet will take place at the First Horizon Coliseum, formerly known as Greensboro Coliseum, and will broadcast nationally on ACC Network. Tickets can be purchased here.
