Balanced Scoring Keeps WLAX Unbeaten After 20-4 Win At Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Thirteen different players recorded at least one point and No. 2 North Carolina once again held it down defensively during its 20-4 win over Louisville on Friday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium in Kentucky.
Following the Atlantic Coast Conference win, the Tar Heels remain unbeaten at 5-0 (2-0 ACC) while the Cardinals drop to 3-3 (1-1 ACC).

The second-ranked Tar Heels return to Chapel Hill for a three-game home stretch. First up is a nonconference game against Temple on Tuesday, March 4, at 5 p.m. ET at Dorrance Field on ACCNX. Tickets are available for purchase here.

How It Happened
- Marissa White opened scoring less than three minutes into the game to spark a 6-0 run for the Tar Heels.
- Chloe Humphrey got a hat trick just over 10 minutes into the contest, netting the last two of the opening frame to give Carolina an 8-1 lead.
- A quieter second quarter offensively proved to be a big quarter defensively. Only two goals were scored in the second, from Olivia Vergano and Kaleigh Harden.
- UNC's defensive unit did not allow a goal in the second which saw a stretch of three consecutive minutes of UofL on the attack.
- The Tar Heels carried their 10-1 lead into the break while out shooting the Cardinals 21-10. UNC also had a 10-2 edge in caused turnovers while Betty Nelson had six saves.
- Both sides traded goals to start the second half before North Carolina regained its offensive momentum, scoring the next five to close out the quarter up 16-2.
- The Tar Heels continued to pour them in throughout the final frame with four more goals from four different players, building their lead to 20-4 at the final whistle.
- Carolina dominated on all fronts, out-shooting Louisville 37-17 and 29-12 on goal.
- Ashley Humphrey led all players with four points behind two goals and two assists. C. Humphrey notched a game-high three goals.
- UNC finished with 11 caused turnovers to UofL's three. Brooklyn Walker-Welch matched her career-high three for the second game in a row.
- Led by Avery Roberts' career-high-tying three draw controls, UNC ended the game with a 17-9 advantage from the circle. Ten different Tar Heels registered at least one draw control.
- Carolina also had a 15-10 edge in ground ball. Nelson picked up a career-high three.
- UNC goalies combined for eight saves, with Nelson making seven and Lexi Zenk adding one during the fourth quarter.
- The Tar Heels move to 12-0 in the all-time series with Louisville.
- Carolina has out-scored its opponents 87-24 through five games. The team has yet to allow double-digit goals.
- This marks UNC's second game this season scoring 20+ goals.
- With her two assists, A. Humphrey has become the 15th player in program history to record 50+ assists in their UNC career. She now joins the elite group in just 19 games at Carolina.
- C. Humphrey has had four hat tricks in five games. Three of those have been first-half hat tricks with two in the first quarter.
