Ten Things to Know
- North Carolina is ranked No. 24 this week, its fifth straight week in the top 25.
- This week, the Tar Heels rank 25th nationally on vault (48.87), 30th on bars (48.925), 18th on beam (49.0) and 42nd on floor (48.84). In the ACC, UNC ranks third on beam, fourth on vault and bars, and fifth on floor. Â
- UNC has 10 rotations of 49.0+ this year, including four on beam. Through six meets last year in 2024, the team only had four rotations of 49.0+.Â
- JoJo Valahovic was named the ACC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 11 for the third week in a row. She won the honor after career-highs of 9.9 on vault and 9.95 on beam in UNC's meet at Pitt on Feb. 14, winning both events outright. Â
- Valahovic is the first three-time Newcomer of the Week in ACC Gymnastics history. She is also the first UNC gymnast in program history to win multiple ACC weekly honors in the same season. Â
- Valahovic is one of four gymnasts in the ACC to record a league-leading 9.95 on beam and the only freshman to do so. She is one of nine gymnasts – and the only rookie – in the ACC to have scored a 9.9 or higher on vault.
- Last time out at Pitt on Feb. 14, Carolina had a season-high road score of 196.15. The Tar Heels also set season-high marks on vault (49.2) and beam (49.35).Â
- Carolina's season-high 49.35 beam rotation from Feb. 14 is one of the best in program history. It matches the highest beam score in the Durante era, and the best beam score on the road.Â
- In the last meeting with NC State at home on Jan. 24, UNC set a season's best score on bars with a 49.3.
- Lali Dekanoidze scored a 9.975 on bars on Jan. 24 to match her own program
record for the fourth time. She's one of nine gymnasts in the country to score a 9.975+ on bars, and the only one in the ACC.
The Tar Heels were picked to finish fifth in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll. The team received one first-place vote. NC State checked in at third.
