Wrestling Closes 2025 At No. 6 Nebraska, No. 12 Northern Iowa

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 16th-ranked North Carolina wrestling team closes out the 2025 calendar year this weekend, traveling to sixth-ranked Nebraska (Friday) and No. 12 Northern Iowa (Sunday), in the Tar Heels' Midwest swing.Â

Last Time Out
• On Friday, the Tar Heels defeated No. 17 West Virginia, 27-7, inside Carmichael Arena.Â
• On the night, Kysen Terukina (125), Ethan Oakley (133), Luke Simcox (141), Nate Askew (149), Bryce Hepner (165), Jake Dailey (184), Robert Platt (197) and Nolan Neves (285) secured wins. Hepner's first-period fall was the lone bonus-point victory in the matchup for Carolina.
• The Tar Heels jumped out to a 12-0 advantage following four-straight decisions, courtesy of Terukina, Oakley, Simcox, and Askew.
• At 157-pounds, Hepner's first-period fall was the second of the campaign and the 12th of his collegiate career. Three of the four wins this season for the Avon, Ohio product have come via major decision or fall.
• Carolina closed the dual with three-straight decisions by Dailey, Platt and Neves. Dailey and Platt secured verdicts over No. 21 Ian Bush and No. 22 Rune Lawrence, respectively. For both, the tandem each claimed their first ranked wins of the season.
Dailey, Platt Into The Polls
• Following last weekend's ranked victories, Jake Dailey (184) and Robert Platt (197) jumped into the weekly InterMat Wrestling rankings.
• For Dailey, the 24th-ranked wrestler at 184-pounds, the appearance in the poll was the first of his collegiate career.
• Platt's slot at No. 33 nationally at 197-pounds, returns the Brawley, Calif. product into the national rankings after a two-week hiatus.
Koll and Manning's Ties
• Tar Heel head coach Rob Koll and Nebraska head coach Mark Manning's relationship dates back to the 1980's, during Manning's tenure on the North Carolina coaching staff.
• Manning began his coaching career at North Carolina as an assistant coach under Bill Lam from 1985-93. During Manning's time in Chapel Hill, Koll wrestled under Manning's assistance, joining the coaching staff as a graduate assistant after his athletic career.
• During his time in Chapel Hill, Manning helped the Tar Heels win four Atlantic Coast Conference titles, and three top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships.
• Individually, 15 Tar Heel wrestlers made the All-America podium, four of which were national finalists. Koll (1988) and T.J. Jaworsky (1993) won national championships during that span.
