November 3, 2025 | Fencing
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina fencing is excited to welcome five new men's fencers to the fencing family. The newcomers are hailing from all over the US, from Oregon to Charlotte.
Charlotte-native, Sebastian Glennon excels at fencing, but he also competes in the modern pentathlon. In fact, he was recruited for the pentathlon to be a part of the Charlotte Resident Program for pentathletes specifically because of his fencing and track and field background. The resident program is a development initiative of USA Pentathlon Multisport, based out of Charlotte, NC. Glennon was one of 12 athletes selected, and he spent the entire summer training with Team USA. Before coming to UNC, he found success fencing on the national stage with a sixth-place finish out of 140+ fencers at the 2025 Summer Nationals.
Yanni Tsimiklis, the three-time Greek National Champion, has flourished athletically as he won the cadet title in the 2022-23 season and repeated as junior champion in 2022 to 2024. Besides dominating on the national side, his talent earned him the world junior ranking of No. 28. Tsimiklis' long-term career goals matched perfectly with what Carolina as a school could provide, as he wants to break into the medical profession, so he is studying biology and is on the pre-med track. This past year, he was able to watch full knee and hip replacement surgeries at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Vasko Atanassov is a member of the German Cadet world travel team, winning multiple team events in Germany and Hungary from 2022-23. The Beaverton, Oregon native comes from a fencing family as his mother, Anna Angelova-Atanassov, was a 1996 Olympian for Bulgaria and was named Fencer of the Year in 1997.
Aiden Song joined the Tar Heels from Texas for a multitude of reasons. "I chose UNC because the business school is really strong, and I loved the campus when I visited. The team environment stood out to me; people genuinely support each other here, and that's the kind of community I want to be a part of."
Ivan Radoslavov hails from New Jersey. The freshman ended his high school career on the All-American First Team. He is a three-time national medalist and placed 5th in the Division 1A Summer Nationals. He ended his senior year of high school as 40th in the nation in junior national points.
