Five Tar Heels Named All-ACC For Field Hockey
November 3, 2025 | Field Hockey
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has selected five members of the North Carolina field hockey program for All-ACC honors. Charly Bruder and Ryleigh Heck earned first team recognition while Isabel Boere, Sietske Brüning, and Dani Mendez made the second team.
Heck has made the All-ACC first team four times now, becoming the sixth player in program history to do so. It's the third straight year earning inclusion for Bruder and Brüning. It is also the third career selection for Mendez, who got her first two while playing at Virginia. The Tar Heels tied Wake Forest for the most players to earn honors with five.
Bruder, who currently sits in a tie for the fourth most goals in the conference despite having less games played than those ahead of her, has been an absolute force for Carolina since returning from injury. She has 15 goals and three assists on the season and has really hit her stride down the stretch, scoring seven in her last seven.
The senior captain Heck continues to be the most dangerous woman on any field in the nation, drawing defensive attention quite like no one else. She is the only player in the conference to be in the top-5 in both goals (16) and assists (11).
Boere has been a stalwart in the back line for the Tar Heels in her debut campaign, contributing to both the defense and the attack. The true freshman has contributed seven goals and four assists while helping UNC to four shutouts on the season.
Fellow captain Brüning has been an absolute warrior all season, battling through multiple injuries to marshal her forces to a fourth straight ACC regular season title. Asked to play an even more defensive role this season, she has helped Carolina to the No. 10 goals against average in the country despite the most difficult strength of schedule.
The transfer Mendez has been nothing short of sensational in her lone season in Carolina blue, providing 11 goals and 12 assists. She and Ryleigh Heck are the only players in the conference that have racked up double digit goals and assists.
