Nyla Brooks Touted As ACC Freshman Of The Week
November 24, 2025 | Women's Basketball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After an outstanding week helping North Carolina women's basketball to wins at N.C. A&T and over UNCG, Nyla Brooks has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week.
Brooks continues to ascend six games into her freshman campaign, as the Waldorf, Md., native keeps on getting better. This past week, Brooks averaged 16.0 points per game while shooting 60% from the field and 50% from three.
In Carolina's largest road win since 2021, Brooks posted 14 points while knocking down a career-high four triples at N.C. A&T. Brooks was all over the place against the Aggies, grabbing five rebounds and rejecting two shots to set new career-highs.
Posting a performance of perfection against UNCG, Brooks scored a career-high 18 points while shooting 7-of-7 from the field and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. She is the only freshman in the ACC this season to make seven field goals and shoot 100% from the field. Brooks' 18 points are also the most by any ACC freshman in a single game this season. As a team against the Spartans, Carolina finished with an overall percentage of 66.1 to rank second in a single game at UNC.
Brooks is the first Tar Heel to earn ACC Freshman of the Week honors since Kayla McPherson did so in 2023. Overall, Carolina boasts 84 ACC Freshman of the Week honors, the most all-time in conference history.
The Tar Heels are grabbing their passports this week heading to the 2025 Cancun Challenge for three games in three days, Nov. 27-29. Carolina kicks off its time in paradise on Thursday, facing the Summit League champions in South Dakota State at 11 a.m. ET. All games of the 2025 Cancun Challenge can be caught on FloHoops.
