January 31, 2025 | General, Student-Athlete Development
Chapel Hill, N.C.–Carolina Athletics and Wegmans are once again teaming up to launch their third annual "Fill the Pantry" campaign, benefiting the FoodWell food pantry at UNC Health. This initiative supports patients and their families in need, providing essential nourishment during challenging times.
Tar Heel fans and local community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at Wegmans' Chapel Hill store, located at 1810 Fordham Blvd. The food drive will run through February 28th with a donation bin located at the customer service desk. All contributions will be collected, and the total donation amount will be announced in the Spring following the campaign.
"Our UNC Hospitals & UNC Faculty Physicians team is dedicated to holistic care for the patients we serve," said Janet Hadar, UNC Hospitals president. "In 2024 alone, the FoodWell program at our UNC Hospitals Chapel Hill and Hillsborough campuses offered supplemental food assistance to 1,180 patients. Easing that burden of food insecurity for so many families alongside our community partners is a privilege and speaks to our shared commitment to fellow North Carolinians."
Over the past three years, the "Fill the Pantry" campaign has collected over 2,000 pounds of food, providing essential support to families in need across the community.
"Wegmans is devoted to being a good neighbor in every community we serve," says Chapel Hill store manager Kathy Haines. "Our partnership with UNC allows us to do just that. We are working together to address food insecurities right here in the Chapel Hill area. We are excited to partner with the UNC staff to coordinate the third annual Fill the Pantry food drive."
Tar Heel Sports Properties, the locally based team of Learfield is the exclusive multimedia rights holder for UNC Athletics and oversees all sponsorship agreements on behalf of the Tar Heels.
