January 28, 2026 | General
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina Athletics and Wegmans Food Markets are once again teaming up to launch their fourth annual "Fill the Pantry" campaign, benefiting the UNC Health FoodWell food pantry program. This initiative supports patients and their families in need, providing essential nourishment during challenging times.
Tar Heel fans and local community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at Wegmans' Chapel Hill store, located at 1810 Fordham Blvd. The food drive will run through February 28th with one donation bin located at the customer service desk. All contributions will be collected and the total donation amount will be announced in the spring following the campaign.
"We believe caring for patients means supporting every aspect of their well-being," said Jeff Lindsay, UNC Health president and chief operating officer. "Through the FoodWell program at our Chapel Hill and Hillsborough hospitals, we've helped thousands of patients and families access nutritious food each year since launching the program in 2020. Working alongside our community partners to reduce food insecurity is an honor and reflects our deep commitment to the people of North Carolina."
Over the past three years, the "Fill the Pantry" campaign has collected over 3,500 pounds of food, offering supplemental food assistance to over 3,700 patients and providing essential support to families in need across the community.
Wegmans is a regional supermarket chain with 114 stores located along the east coast. The family company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016. Wegmans has been named one of Fortune's '100 Best Companies to Work For' list every year from 1998 through 2025, ranking #6 in 2025.
"Partnering on this initiative allows us to serve the community in such a meaningful way," said Katie Duchnowski, Chapel Hill store manager. "Together, we're doing more than collecting food-we're sharing hope, kindness and a reminder that when we come together, we can make a real difference. It's partnerships like this that strengthen our community and inspire others to give back. Wegmans is proud to work alongside the UNC team, and we look forward to the positive impact this will have for the families and individuals in Chapel Hill."
Tar Heel Sports Properties, the locally based team of Learfield – the media and technology company powering college sports – is the exclusive multimedia rights holder for UNC Athletics and oversees all sponsorship agreements on behalf of the Tar Heels.
