Softball Falls To No. 2 Duke, 6-1, In Series Finale

DURHAM, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (24-13, 6-9 ACC) fell to No. 2 Duke (33-3, 13-2 ACC) in the series finale, 6-1, on Sunday evening at Duke Softball Field. The Blue Devils took all three games in the weekend series from the Tar Heels.
The Blue Devils scored five of their six runs off three home runs, a solo home run in the top of the first and two home runs in fourth: a three-run and a solo shot back-to-back.
Duke's sixth run came in the bottom of the sixth off a sacrifice fly.
Despite outhitting Duke 10-9 in the loss, Carolina left 10 on-base, unable to get the timely hits.
Three Tar Heels had multi-hit games: junior Alex Coleman, freshman Sanaa Thompson and senior Destiny Middleton.
Coleman went 3-of-4 at the plate, her sixteenth multi-hit game and eighth time she has had three or more hits this season, bringing her season hit total to a team-best 60.
Middleton was 3-of-3 at the dish, her tenth multi-hit game of the season, and third multi-hit game in ACC play. Thompson tallied two hits in four at-bats, her 13th multi-hit game of the season and second of the series.
Sophomore Kenna Raye Dark (6-3) took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs, eight hits and two walks in 3.2 innings.
Freshman Nikki Harris pitched 2.1 innings of relief, allowing just one hit and one run and two walks.
Up next, Carolina hosts Longwood on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
