Softball Drops Game Two To No. 2 Duke In Five

DURHAM, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (24-12, 6-8 ACC) fell to No. 2 Duke (32-3, 12-2 ACC), 8-0, on the road Saturday afternoon at Duke Softball Stadium in five innings. With the victory, the Blue Devils clinched the weekend series.
Senior Bailey McCachren (3-2), who started the game, took the loss, allowing five runs, two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch, while recording one out.
Senior Talia Hannappel pitched two outs, allowing a two-run home run.
Freshman Janelle Wilson entered the circle in the bottom of the third, making just her second career appearance and first since Feb. 15 against Kentucky.
Wilson pitched three innings, allowing a pair of runs and a walk, while tallying her first career strikeout and the first Tar Heel strikeout of the weekend.
Senior Skyler Brooks and junior Alex Coleman had the lone two Tar Heel hits, with Brooks recording her fifth double of the season in the top of the first. Settlemyre drew the sole Tar Heel walk and stole her fourth base.
Carolina struck out 12 times in the loss.
The series finale is set for Sunday at 7 p.m. on the ACC Network, with former Tar Heel head coach Donna Papa on the call.
