Softball Drops Battle At No. 2 Duke, 6-4

DURHAM, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (24-11, 6-7 ACC) dropped a battle in the series-opener at No. 2 Duke (31-3, 11-2 ACC) on Friday night, 6-4.
It was a stalemate through the first two and a half innings, before Duke broke the game open in the bottom of the third, plating three runs on three hits.
The Tar Heels made it a one-run game in the top of the fifth, scoring the first run on a Abby Settlemyre sacrifice fly, before Skyler Brooks scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-2.
The Blue Devils stormed back with a pair of home runs, a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth and a two-run shot in the sixth to go ahead, 6-2.
Down to the final out, redshirt sophomore Isabela Emerling hit her 12th home run of the season, a two-run shot over left center to make it 6-4.
Kenna Raye Dark (6-2) took the loss in the circle, throwing five innings, allowing four runs, eight hits and a pair of walks.
Senior Talia Hannappel came in and pitched an inning of relief, allowing a pair of runs on one hit and a hit batter.

- Junior Alex Coleman recorded two hits and a walk in the loss. She now has a team-best 15 multi-hit games on the season and 56 total hits
- Freshman Sanaa Thompson also had a pair of hits in the game and now has 11 multi-hit games on the season
