Softball Opens Weekend With 9-3 Victory Over Georgia Tech

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina softball team (21-7, 3-4 ACC) opened the weekend with a 9-3 victory over Georgia Tech (21-11, 7-3 ACC) on Friday afternoon at Anderson Stadium.
The Tar Heels out-hit the Yellow Jackets 11-5 in the victory, the sixteenth time Carolina has tallied double-digit hits in a game this season.
Junior Alex Coleman went 3-of-4 at the plate, her seventh game with three or more hits, and third multi-hit game in ACC play. She now has a team-best 49 hits in her first season at Carolina.
Six different Tar Heels had an RBI in the win, with graduate Abby Settlemyre tallying a team-best 3, all off a three-run home run, her first long ball of the season, to go with two hits and two runs. Graduate Destiny Middleton and junior Isabela Emerling also each tallied two hits against the Yellow Jackets.
In the circle, sophomore Kenna Raye Dark (5-1) earned her second conference win, throwing her sixth complete game, allowing just two earned runs, three walks, five hits and recording a pair of strikeouts.
The Tar Heels will look to clinch the series with over Georgia Tech on Saturday at 6 p.m.
