Clemson Downs Softball In Five

CLEMSON, S.C. – The North Carolina softball team (20-7, 2-4 ACC) fell 9-1 to No. 14 Clemson (21-6, 5-1 ACC) in five innings in the series finale Sunday evening at McWhorter Stadium. With the loss, the Tigers earned the conference series sweep over the Tar Heels.
Graduate Autumn Owen and senior Destiny Middleton led the offense with two hits apiece, while junior Carlie Myrtle had the sole RBI for the second game in a row.
The Tar Heels trailed from the first inning, giving up five runs on five hits in the opening frame, including a leadoff home run. Clemson tallied 12 hits and three home runs in the game.
Carolina used four pitchers in the loss.
Redshirt junior Britton Rogers (8-1) earned the loss in the circle for the first time this season, giving up four earned runs on three hits while not recording an out.
Sophomore Kenna Raye Dark pitched one out, giving up one earned run, while senior Bailey McCachren pitched 2.2 innings, giving up four earned runs and two walks. Senior Talia Hannappel pitched the final two outs, giving up a hit and stranding two Tigers on second and third.
Up next, Carolina will host a three-game series with Georgia Tech at Anderson Stadium, kicking off on Friday at 5 p.m.
