Softball Run-Rules Rider, 8-0, In Five

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (14-2) earned their eighth run-rule victory of the season on Friday afternoon, shutting out Rider, 8-0, in five innings on the first day of the Mizuno Invitational.
Freshman Nikki Harris threw another gem in the circle, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts. In her last three appearances, she has allowed just one earned run in a combined eighteen innings of work with 26 strikeouts.
Junior Alex Coleman went a team-best 3-of-3 at the plate with a pair of runs, her eighth multi-hit game of the season, and extended her hitting streak to 16 games. Coleman also had both of Carolina's stolen bases, bringing her season total to 17.
With one hit apiece, freshman Sanaa Thompson (14) and redshirt sophomore Isabela Emerling (10) also extended their double-digit hitting streaks.
Graduate Autumn Owen hit her fourth home run of the season in the victory, going 2-of-2 at the plate with a walk and a pair of RBIs.
As a team, the Tar Heels combined for 11 hits, with eight different players recording a hit. It was the 12th time this season that Carolina has had double-digit hits in a game.
Up next, the Tar Heels host Rutgers at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning to open up the second day of the Mizuno Invitational at Anderson Stadium.
