CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (14-3) fell to Rutgers 4-0 during the second day of the Mizuno Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Anderson Stadium. It is just the second time this season that the Tar Heels have been shutout in a game.

Senior Bailey McCachren (2-1) was on the hook of the loss in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned, five hits, with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Sophomore Kenna Raye Dark pitched the remaining 3.2 innings, allowing six hits, one earned run with three strikeouts.Â

Graduate Destiny Middleton went a team-best two-of-two at the plate with a walk, while Sanaa Thompson extended her hitting streak to 15 with a base hit.Â

Up next, the Tar Heels face Lafayette and Campbell in a doubleheader Sunday at 2 p.m.
