CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (13-2) ended up on the right side of a pitcher's duel on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Oakland University, 1-0.
Sophomore pitcher Kenna Raye Dark picked up her third win of the season in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout, tallying six strikeouts and allowing just six hits.
Dark has allowed just three earned runs this season in 20.2 innings pitched and none in the last 12 innings. She is also up to 24 strikeouts on the season.
Lexi Godwin had the game-winning RBI against the Golden Grizzlies in the top of the first inning, scoring Alex Coleman. Godwin has now tallied 11 RBIs between the last two games.
Alex Coleman (15) and Sanaa Thompson (13) both extended their double-digit hitting streaks against Oakland. Coleman, a transfer, and Thompson, a freshman, have never played in a Carolina game without recording a hit.
Up next, the Tar Heels are back in action on Friday, hosting Rutgers at 2 p.m.
