Softball Caps Off 4-0 Opening Weekend With Two Victories On Saturday

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Carolina softball team capped off a 4-0 opening weekend with back-to-back victories against NC A&T and Winthrop on Saturday afternoon.
In game one against the Aggies, a 13-3 victory, Carolina's bats came out scorching, plating a weekend-best 13 runs on 15 hits. Graduate Lexi Godwin set a new career-best with five RBIs and hit her first home run since 2020.
In her first game as a Tar Heel, freshman outfielder Sanaa Thompson went 3-of-4 at the plate with a pair of stolen bases against NC A&T. Freshman Nikki Harris got the start in the circle, finishing with a line of five strikeouts and three earned runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Redshirt junior Britton Rogers threw another gem in game two against Winthrop, leading the the Tar Heels to a 3-1 win. Rogers threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts. Junior Alex Coleman went a team-best 4-of-4 at the plate against the Eagles with an RBI, while graduate Autumn Owen drove in a pair of runs.
On the weekend, the Tar Heels outscored their opponents 37-5 and Carolina's pitching staff allowed just four earned runs in 25 innings pitched. Carolina also showed speed on the bases, going 21-for-22 in stolen base attempts.
