October 18, 2024 | Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. - Ethan Strand led the way for Carolina cross country at the Princeton Invitational on Friday. The senior won the race as he helped the men's team bring home a fourth place finish while the women's team rounded out the top three behind the seventh place finish of Brynn Brown.
Women's 6k Race:
Brown continued her fantastic senior year, as she was the first Tar Heels to cross the finish line for the third straight week. After the 1k marker, Brown was in 12th, but she improved throughout the race, as she moved into the top ten and held that position the rest of the race. Carolina finished third as a team ahead of three other ranked teams.
Fatima Alanis is also continuing a great senior year, being the second Tar Heel to cross the line for the third straight week. She ran a good race in Princeton, holding thirteenth place for the majority of the race. Â
Men's 8k Race:
Ethan Strand posted his second win of the year with an excellent final kick in the last 1,000 meters of the Princeton Invitational. Strand stayed in the top-10 pack for the entirety of the race and was in the back half of the pack near the midway point. Strand surged from fourth at the 7000-meter mark to take the lead at the end. Strand ran a 2:46.6 split over the last 1,000 meters to win by two seconds.Â
Colton Sands also stayed in the top ten for the entire race. Sands stuck close to Strand throughout the majority of the race, occasionally switching places with him before finishing in sixth, helping the men finish in fourth.
