Southerland Ties Career Round At Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invite

UNC Sophomore Reagan Southerland matched her career best with an opening-round 69 Friday to begin play in the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at Finley Golf Club.
Southerland was one of only five players in the field to better par and one of 11 to shoot par or better. The Atlanta, Ga., native finished 1 under, tied for fourth just two strokes behind Wake Forest' Carolina Lopez-Chacarra, who began the three-day tournament with a 67.
Kentucky rallied late to grab the 18-hole lead at 4-over 284. Michigan State and Wake Forest are tied for second at 6 over, Louisville, is fourth at 7 over, Tennessee is fifth at 10 over and the Tar Heels are tied with Duke, Michigan and NC State at 12-over-par 292.
Duke's Andie Smith and NC State's Marie Madsen are tied for second at 2-under 68, one stroke behind Lopez-Chacarra, while Southerland is tied for fourth with Vanderbilt's Ava Merrill at 1-under 69.
UNC's Megan Streicher shot 71 to tie for 10th, Helen Yeung shot 74, Inez Ng finished with a 78 and Ing Iadpluem shot 79.
Round two is Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and the final round is Sunday with a shotgun start beginning at 9:30.
