Softball Opens ACC Play With Three-Game Home Series With No. 13 Virginia Tech

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (8-13) returns home on Friday at 4 p.m. to open Atlantic Coast Conference play, hosting No. 13 Virginia Tech (17-3) at Anderson Softball Stadium. The Tar Heels will play a single game on Friday against the Hokies, before playing a doubleheader to cap off the three-game series on Saturday, starting at 2:30 p.m.
The original schedule to play one game on each Friday, Saturday and Sunday was changed on Thursday due to forecasted inclement weather on Sunday.
For those unable to those unable to attend in person, Friday and the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday will be streamed on ACCNX, while the series finale on Saturday will be on the ACC Network.
Carolina is coming off a 1-3 weekend at home during the Carolina Classic, splitting their two games with Purdue, before falling 0-2 to JMU.
In that four-game stretch, senior Bri Stubbs batted a team-best .571, going 8-of-14 at the plate. Kiersten Licea drove in a team best 4 RBIs with six hits, a pair of doubles and a homerun, while slugging a team-best .786.

- Virginia Tech is 17-4 overall on the season, 3-0 in ACC play, and is ranked #13 by the NFCA. Emma Ritter leads the team with a .420 average, while Jayme Bailey leads the Hokies with 20 RBI. Ritter and Bailey each have hit a team-best six home runs on the year
- Emma Lemley leads the Hokies in the circle with a 1.80 ERA with a record of 10-2, nine complete games and three shutouts. She has 103 strikeouts on the season, which is the most of any player in the conference, and has pitched 66 innings, the most in the ACC
- The Hokies rank third in the ACC in fielding (.977), fourth in hitting (.317), and seventh in pitching (2.54 ERA)
