
Women Finish 10th At NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The UNC women's swimming and diving team finished in 10th place at the 2023 NCAA Championships on Saturday capturing the program's first top 10 finish since 2001 and sixth overall.
North Carolina placed ninth at the 2001 NCAA Championships, but hadn't cracked the top 10 until tonight. It's best finish occurred in 1982 when UNC placed third. The Tar Heels placed among the top 10 four times in the 1980s.
Four Tar Heels advanced from the preliminaries into the consolation finals on the last day of competition.
Aranza Vazquez, who swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events, finished second on the platform in the consolation finals and 10th overall with a score of 273.45.
Ellie VanNote placed fourth in the consolation finals and 12th overall in the 200 fly as did Sophie Lindner in the 200 back. Grace Countie finished seventh in the100 free consolation finals and 15th overall.
All four ladies earned honorable mention All-America honors for finishing among the top 16.
