No. 8 NC State Upends Wrestling To Close Regular Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 8-ranked NC State wrestling program (14-1, 4-1 ACC) defeated No. 27 North Carolina (6-9, 2-3 ACC) 28-6, to close out the regular season portion of the 2023 campaign.
Prior to the match, the North Carolina wrestling program honored 13 Tar Heels for their commitment to the program during their time in Chapel Hill. These individuals include: Leah Smith, Charley Barry, Gino Esposito, Michael Goldfeder, Clay Lautt, Marcus Loving, Joey Mazzara, Joey Melendez, Austin O'Connor, Mason Phillips, Zach Sherman, Jack Wagner and Brandon Whitman.
Matching up with the Wolfpack, Jack Wagner (125) and Austin O'Connor (157) picked up decisions for the Tar Heels. For O'Connor, the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week, it was his second consecutive top-15 victory, closing out his regular season at a perfect 16-0.
