Vazquez Wins 3M Diving At The ACC Championhips

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC junior Aranza Vazquez won her second career 3-meter springboard title in three years Tuesday at the 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. She won the event as a freshman in 2021 before capturing the bronze in 2022.
Vazquez won the title with 381.85 points to finish 14.65 points of ahead of runner-up Mia Vallee of Miami with 367.20 points.
UNC senior Emily Grund captured the bronze medal in the event with a final tally of 350.90 points. It was her first ACC medal since capturing the silver medal in the platform competition as freshman in 2019.
Freshman Haley Marshall also competed in the finals of the women's 3-meter dive. She posted a score of 276.60 to finish seventh overall. Senior Paige Burrell was one spot shy of making the finals, finishing ninth with a score of 292.20, 8.85 points out of eighth place.
The Tar Heels' women's 200 medley relay team finished a mere 0.47 behind Louisville for a spot on the podium but did establish a new school record in the event. Greer Pattison, Skyler Smith, Ellie VanNote and Grace Countie posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:34.70 on their way to a fourth-place finish.
After three events, the UNC women are in first place with 202 points followed by Virginia with 166 and Louisville with 140.
On the men's side, senior Anton Down-Jenkins captured the silver medal in the 1-meter springboard competition with 395.75 points. Miami's Max Flory won the event with a score of 408.15.
UNC is in sixth place after the conclusion of day one's events with 96 points, while NC State sits atop the men's standings with 128 points followed by Louisville in second with 110 points.
The championships continue Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary events. Wednesday's finals events start at 5:30 p.m. They air live on ACC Network Extra and are accessible via the ESPN app. Direct links to the ACCNX feeds and live results are available at theACC.com.
