Vazquez Wins Second Gold Of 2023 ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC junior Aranza Vazquez collected her second gold medal of the 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday with a first-place finish in the women's 1-meter diving competition.
It was her second win in as many days after claiming the gold medal in the 3-meter springboard competition Tuesday.
Vazquez posted an ACC Championship and UNC record score of 379.25, finishing 49.20 points ahead of Miami's Mia Vallee in second place. UNC's Emily Grund finished in fifth place with a score of 289.50.
Grace Countie, who previously qualified for the NCAA Championships in the women's 50-yard freestyle, earned a fifth-place finish in event with a time of 21.84. Olivia Nel finished 13th in the event with an NCAA B qualifying time (22.33).
Countie and Nel paired with Greer Pattison and Skyler Smith to register an NCAA automatic qualifying time (1:27.69) in the 200-yard freestyle relay and earn a fourth-place finish.
UNC stands in fourth place after two days of competition with 386 points. Virginia sits atop the women's leaderboard with 551 points followed by Louisville (473.5) and NC State (427).
On the men's side, Patrick Hussey posted an NCAA B qualifying time (4:18.39) in the consolation finals of the 500-yard freestyle to finish 11th overall in the event.
The Tar Heels are in seventh place overall on the men's side with 216 points. NC State leads the competition with 585 points.
The championships continue Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary events. Thursday's finals events start at 5:30 p.m. They air live on ACC Network Extra and are accessible via the ESPN app. Direct links to the ACCNX feeds and live results are available at theACC.com.
