Cross Country Sweeps To Third Consecutive Wins At Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, PA.—The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country teams both won their third consecutive races to open the 2022 season by taking first place at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday morning.
The Tar Heel men and women both remained perfect through three races after starting the season with wins in the Charlotte Opener (Sept. 2) and the Coaching Tree Invitational (Sept. 16).
On the men's side, 13th-ranked Carolina dominated the Men's College Gold 8K with Parker Wolfe taking first place overall in a time of 23:02.4 (setting a new course record) and Patrick Anderson finishing just two seconds behind in second place in 23:04.4. The Tar Heels totaled 64 points as a team, besting No. 21 Villanova (100), unranked Utah State (105) and No. 17 Georgetown (138). The UNC men won their second consecutive Paul Short Run after also winning the event in 2021.
After Wolfe and Anderson, the Tar Heels got strong performances from John Tatter (18th place in 23:25.0), Ethan Strand (21st in 23:27.0) and Marshall Williamson (25th in 23:28.3).
The 12th-ranked Carolina women paced the field in the Women's College Gold 6K race with 63 points, besting No. 18 Georgetown (67), No. 15 Providence (176) unranked Utah State (191) and No. 16 Utah Valley (234).
Brynn Brown led the women with a sixth-place finish in 19:38.6, while Kelsey Harrington (eighth in 19:41.8), Taryn Parks (12th in 19:54.2), Natalie Tyner (17th in 19:58.1) and Fatima Alanis (20th in 20:00.6) all posted top-20 finishes.
The Tar Heels will return to action in two weeks at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis.
