Ostberg Earns All-America Honors With Personal Best

EUGENE, Ore. – For the second night in a row, a Tar Heel earned first-team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. Competing at Hayward Field, UNC graduate student Alex Ostberg placed eighth in the men's 5,000 meters in a time of 13:31.60, a personal best and the third-fastest time in program history.
Ostberg's first-team honors come on the heels of Madison Wiltrout's bronze medal in the women's javelin on Thursday.
After Ostberg and Wiltrout with first-team honors, three Tar Heels earned second-team honors (places nine through 16) at the Outdoor Championships: Jill Shippee was ninth in women's hammer, Anna Keefer placed 10th in women's long jump and James Joycey was 15th in men's hammer.
Jesse Hunt (men's 1500M) and Sasha Neglia (women's steeplechase) both came away with honorable mention All-America honors.
