GAINESVILLE, FLA.—Second overall seed Florida won the doubles point and went on to defeat No. 15 seed North Carolina, 4-0, in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship on Friday.
After the doubles win gave the Gators a 1-0 lead, No. 2-ranked Ben Shelton beat No. 33 Brian Cernoch in straight sets at No. 1 singles for a 2-0 lead. No. 119 Josh Goodger's win over Henry Lieberman at No. 6 singles made the score 3-0 UF, and No. 115 Duarte Vale beat Mac Kiger at No. 3 to end the match.
The start of the match was delayed over two hours by lightning in the vicinity.
Carolina's season comes to an end with a record of 18-9. Despite Friday's loss, the Tar Heels won 10 of their final 13 matches to close the season.
