Softball Upsets No. 4 FSU On Senior Day

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball earned an upset victory over No. 4 Florida State on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Seminoles 5-1. It was FSU's first road loss of the season.
Freshman Lilli Backes earned her first career win over a ranked team in the circle, throwing a complete game and limiting the Seminoles to just three hits and one run with three strikeouts.
Sara Jubas was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, going three-of-four at the plate with a single, a double and hitting her third home run as a Tar Heel.
Jubas and Alex Brown each had two RBIs in the win.

- Florida State was able to load the bases with no outs in the top of the first with a leadoff walk followed by back-to-back singles. The Seminoles were able to take the 1-0 lead off a sac fly
- Carolina took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second, with Brown plating Destiny Middleton and Kiannah Pierce with her first career triple, followed by a Jubas RBI base hit
- A Pierce RBI single to the pitcher in the bottom of the third made it 4-1 Tar Heels after three
- The final run of the day came off the bat of Jubas, who hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth
- Jubas recorded her 16th double of the season, the ninth-most in a single season by any player in program history
- Bri Stubbs drew her 27th walk of the season, the fifth-most in the ACC currently
- Carolina's last top-5 win was over No. 2 Alabama on Feb. 8, 2020
