Softball Shutouts Campbell, 3-0

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (21-20, 5-10 ACC) secured a 3-0 midweek victory at Campbell (22-14) on Wednesday night, the Tar Heels' sixth shutout of the season.
Freshman Lilli Backes earned the victory in the circle, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three Camels.
Carlie Myrtle, who earned the start, threw 4.1 innings, allowing just four hits and no runs with five strikeouts.
It was a pitchers' duel from the first pitch, with neither team able to get on the board until the top of the sixth.
Destiny Middleton opened the inning with a base hit and was brought home by a Bri Stubbs RBI single. Taylor Greene then hit her sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall, to make it 3-0.
With the win, Carolina has now won six straight against Campbell.
Up Next:
The Tar Heels host No. 3 Florida State for a three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m. It is also senior weekend and the team will honor Carolina's five graduating seniors, Taylor Greene, Taylor Puetz, Shayla Thompson, Sara Jubas and Hannah George, prior to Saturday's 2 p.m. game against the Seminoles.
