Softball Drops Matchup With No. 12 Oregon

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team fell to No. 12 Oregon 9-1 on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Carolina Classic at Anderson Stadium. Senior Taylor Greene led the team with two hits on the day, hitting her first home run of the season to plate Carolina's sole run.
The Ducks opened the game hot, hitting two solo home runs in the first. Oregon (15-3) plated another four runs in the third, opening the inning with a RBI double, followed by a bases-loaded walk, scoring on a wild pitch and scoring on a fielder's choice.
The Ducks led 6-0 after three, before Greene hit her solo shot over the center field wall to make it a five-run game. Oregon finished the game with a three-run fifth, which included the Ducks' third home run.
Lilli Backes (2-6) took the loss in the circle, tossing 2.1 innings, giving up six earned runs and four hits.
Carolina (10-9) caps off the Carolina Classic with two Sunday matchups, first against UConn at 12:30 p.m. before hosting UNCG in the final game of the day at 5:30 p.m.
