Softball Falls to Penn State, 12-0

CHAPEL HILL – The Carolina softball team fell to Penn State 12-0 on the first day of the Carolina Classic. The Tar Heels committed a season-high five errors, while the Nittany Lions hit two home runs, including a grand slam.
Freshman Carlie Mrytle took the loss in the circle, allowing six earned runs and striking out four batters.
Carolina had not given up more than eight runs in an inning entering the matchup.
The Tar Heels will look to bounce back as they take on No. 12 Oregon on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Anderson Stadium. Admission is free.
