Tar Heel Throwers Stand Out At Tobacco Road Challenge

DURHAM, N.C. – In a storm-shortened day of competition at the Tobacco Road Challenge, the Tar Heel throwers excelled.
Senior Jill Shippee won the women's hammer with a throw of 66.31m (217-6), giving her the victory in the field of eight. It's the second win in a row for Shippee, who also won hammer last weekend at the Virginia Invitational.
Junior Troy Yearwood placed second in men's discuss with a personal best throw of 53.21m (174-7), the ninth-best mark in program history.
The Tar Heels also took second in men's hammer, with junior James Joycey's throw of 65.70m (215-7).
Action in Durham continues on Saturday.
