Men's Tennis Wins At Louisville, 4-1

LOUISVILLE, KY.—Senior Mac Kiger, freshman Logan Zapp and Rinky Hijikata won singles matches as the top-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team improved to 9-0 this season with a 4-1 victory at No. 49 Louisville on Friday afternoon.
The Tar Heels improved to 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference dual matches this spring and have won 11 consecutive matches dating to last season.
Kiger won the first singles match of the afternoon quickly by a score of 6-3, 6-3 over Matthew Fung at No. 5. Sergio Hernandez of Louisville won at No. 3 singles, handing Brian Cernoch his first singles defeat of the dual season, 6-4, 7-6. Zapp followed with a come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-2. 6-1 win over Alex Wesbrooks at No. 6, and Hijikata clinched the match with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) win over No. 71 at Tin Chen at No. 1.
Carolina started the afternoon by winning the doubles point. Playing at No. 1 doubles, Benjamin Sigouin and Hijikata picked up a 6-1 win over Fabien Salle and Fung. After the Cardinals' Sergio Hernandez and Chen beat Cernoch and Adam Neff at No. 2 doubles, 6-4. The Tar Heel senior pair of Kiger and Josh Peck clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 3 over Josh Howard-Tripp and Wesbrooks.
Carolina will return to action on Sunday at noon at Notre Dame. UNC will host its first match at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center since January 31 when Boston College visits Chapel Hill on Friday March 12.
