Tar Heels Finish Strong at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. – Firing two-over-par in the final round, North Carolina wrapped up the Briar's Creek Invitational with its best round of the tournament to place eighth at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Tuesday afternoon at John's Island, S.C.
The Tar Heels finished the second round Tuesday morning in sixth place, led by freshman Crista Izuzquiza in 14th place who shot two-under-par in the second round. However, UNC fell to eighth by the conclusion of the third round.
College of Charleston won the event, firing nine-over-par with a low-round of 284.
Sophomore Krista Junkkari led the Tar Heels with a top-15 finish in t-13th, firing five-over-par through three rounds. Junkkari rebounded from a seven-over-par 79 second round to post six birdies Tuesday and finish with a two-under-par 70 third round.
Freshman Nicole Adam highlighted her week with a stellar back-nine on Wednesday, highlighted by an eagle on No. 10 and three-straight birdies to close out the tournament. Adam improved by 10 strokes from the second to third round to fire three-under-par 69 in round three.
Freshman Izuzquiza led UNC in the second round, firing two-under-par with three birdies and an eagle on the par-five, 440-yard seventh hole on Tuesday. Izuzquiza carded one birdie on Wednesday to finish five-over-par 77 in the final round.
Junior Jennifer Zhou improved by two strokes from the second to third rounds, firing three-over-par 75 on Wednesday. The junior birdied No. 7 and No. 10 in the third round.
Freshman Natalia Aseguinolaza posted an eight-stroke improvement from the second to third round, firing four-over-par in round three. The freshman bounced back from a difficult second round to birdie No.5 and 10 to wrap up the tournament.
Up next, UNC travels to Raleigh, N.C. for NC State's Big Four tournament on Saturday.
