STILLWATER, Okla. – North Carolina placed 14th at the 2020 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship on Monday, the program's best team finish since 2010, and senior Paige Hofstad earned All-America honors by finishing 29th.
Competing at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course, the Tar Heel women were in the field for just the second time since their 14th-place finish in 2010. They were 22nd in 2014 in the program's most recent appearance.
Hofstad's 29th-place finish in 20:46.5 was the best for a UNC runner since Annie LeHardy placed 25th in 2013. Hofstad represented UNC last year as an individual and placed 48th.
The next three Tar Heel finishers on the 6,000-meter course were all freshmen: Sasha Neglia was 46th in 21:03.0, Kelsey Harrington was 61st in 21:11.3, and Ava Dobson was 137th in 21:45.8.
Carolina ranked second of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the NCAA field, which was tied for the most from any conference. NC State was second overall and Florida State was just behind UNC in 15th. Georgia Tech was 20th and Duke was 27th.
On the men's side, junior John Tatter qualified as an individual and placed 194th overall in a time of 32:43.9 over the 10,000-meter course.
