All-America Honors Abound For Tar Heels At NCAA Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tar Heels turned in outstanding performances on the season's biggest stage Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas. Senior Daniel McArthur and the relay team of Isaiah Palmer, Thomas Ratcliffe, Allen Siegler and Brandon Tubby all earned first-team All-America honors.
Competing in the men's shot put, McArthur turned in a throw of 19.84m (65.1 ¼ ) to place fourth, matching his NCAA finish in 2019. Although the 2020 championship was cancelled, he received All-America honors that season as well, making Friday's recognition the third of his career.
The Carolina men's distance medley relay team was part of a record-breaking race that saw the top four teams all beat the previous meet record. UNC's DMR team finished in 9:25.80, a school record and what is believe to be the sixth-fastest time in NCAA history. Oregon set an NCAA record with a winning time of 9:19.98.
Palmer also competed in the men's 400 meters and placed 13th in a time of 46.57, good for second team All-America honors.
Senior Anna Keefer earned second-team All-America honors as well, placing 10th in the women's long jump with a distance of 6.35m (20-10).
