Carolina Opens ACC Friday vs. Pittsburgh

CHAPEL HILL – After dropping a one-run game to Elon Wednesday, North Carolina continues its homestand and begins ACC competition vs. Pittsburg Friday through Sunday at Anderson Stadium.
The ACC opener is slated for 6 p.m. Friday. The series vs. Pittsburgh continues Saturday at 1 p.m. and concludes Sunday at noon. Fans unable to make it to Anderson Stadium, can follow live stats at unclivestats.com or watch on the ACC Network Extra.
Weekend Promotions
Friday is military appreciation night at Anderson Stadium with collection benefiting the USO of North Carolina. Fans are encouraged to donate bottled water, granola bars, chewing gum, beef jerky, shaving cream, and tooth brushes. Saturday is cancer awareness day and Sunday is autism awareness and kids day. The first 25 kids will receive a concessions voucher. The Tar Heels will be signing autographs following Sunday's game and kids are able to run the bases.
About Pittsburgh (5-7)
Splitting the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Clemson and defeating Towson at the Pirate Invite last weekend, Pittsburg returns to the Carolinas for the third-straight weekend to begin ACC play. Redshirt-junior Brittany Knight owns a 4-2 record in the circle while sophomore Katlyn Pavlick leads Pitt with a .324 average.
Series (streak): North Carolina leads, 11-7 (lost one)
Last meeting: Pittsburgh won, 14-5 (5 inn.) on Mar. 30, 2019 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Despite a season-high of seven stolen bases, North Carolina came up short to Elon, 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Anderson Stadium. The Tar Heels responded to Elon's two runs in the third inning as Destiny Middleton stole home. However, the Phoenix held on for the win.
» Freshman Gaby Katz made her career debut in the circle, retiring the side in order. Caroline Cagle did the same in the second inning, highlighted by her first career strikeout. Hannah George struck out three in the final five innings.
» The Tar Heels stole a season-high of seven bases, totaling 40 on the year.
» Carolina turned its seventh and eighth double play of the season in the first.
» Both Destiny Middleton and Abby Settlemyre tallied two hits in the game.
