Eight Personal Records Highlight Day Two of Competition

Boston, Mass. / Clemson, S.C. / Albuquerque, N.M. - The University of North Carolina track & field program wrapped up day two of a competition-filled weekend Saturday with athletes at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational as well as the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. Competition Saturday was highlighted by a strong showing for a trio of Tar Heels in the men's mile at the Valentine Invitational – Jesse Hunt, Alex Milligan, and Brandon Tubby.
Hunt, a junior from Perth, Western Australia, took over five seconds off of his personal record in the mile with a time of 4:03.50. Hunt entered the 2020 indoor season with a personal best of 4:20.43 and has since taken nearly 17 seconds off of that time. Alex Milligan and Brandon Tubby also set personal records in the event. Milligan, a senior from State College, Pa., finished with a time of 4:03.65 while Tubby, a senior from Hillsborough, N.J., ran 4:05.70. Saturday's performance moves Hunt and Milligan into the top 10 in the ACC on the season in the men's mile.
In total the Tar Heels finished the weekend with 13 personal records across two days of competition.
Other Tar Heel Highlights:
• At the Tiger Paw Invitational, Brianna Isles, a senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., set a new personal record in the women's triple jump with a mark of 40-6.75 (12.36m).
• Draven Crist, a fifth year from Burlington, N.C., matched his season best with a clearance of 6-11.5 (2.12m) in the men's high jump, finishing in a tie for fourth.
• At the Valentine Invitational Mitch Resor, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., also ran a personal-record time of 4:11.87 in the men's mile. The senior won his heat of the event on his way to his second career-best performance of the season.
• Ian Moini and Matt Thornton won their respective heats of the men's 3,000 meters in personal-record times. Moini, a junior from Princeton, N.J., finished with a time of 8:21.82 while Thornton, a senior from Cary, N.C., ran 8:25.45. Jeremy Brown, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., also set a personal record in the event, finishing with a time of 8:24.35.
• Daniel McArthur, a senior from Mooresville, N.C., competed at the 2020 USATF Indoor Championships, finishing 19th.
