Tar Heels Fall Short to No. 3 Florida State, Game Two Postponed

CHAPEL HILL – Despite begin down by four early in the game, the Tar Heels bounced back and brought the game within two with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning. However, No. 3 Florida State closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts to earn the 8-6 win in game one of the series on Senior Day.

UNC and the Seminoles attempted to start game two of the series, however Mother Nature made her presence known to call the game. The series will wrap up Monday with a doubleheader at 4 and 7 p.m. live on ESPNU. Â Â

Florida State jumped to a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning on a single and Zoe Casas' three-run triple. However, Carolina responded the first of two home-runs by Brittany Pickett to cut the deficit to one run. Heads up base-running by Tainasha Vines tied the game at 4-4. FSU homered and tripled in the sixth to reclaim the lead. Pickett slugged her second gone-ball of the day to make it, 7-5 in favor of the Noles. FSU plated one run in the seventh. After Berlynne Delamora drew an RBI-walk, Carolina was in position to walk-off with the win but a pair of Megan King strikeouts secured the game. Florida State improves to 38-5, 10-3 in the ACC while Carolina falls to 24-14, 11-5.
