UNC Men Finish 2-2 At Duke Meet

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina men's fencing team went 2-2 Saturday at the Duke Meet, pulling out close victories against Brandeis in the day's first matchup and Johns Hopkins in the finale.
Fencing at Card Gym continues on Sunday, with the women's teams in action beginning at 9 a.m. The Tar Heel women will face Temple at 9, Penn State at 10, Duke at 11 and Brandeis at 1 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
On Saturday, the Tar Heel men kicked off the day with a 14-13 victory over Brandeis, powered by wins in foil (5-4) and epee (6-3).
UNC then fell to No. 5 Penn State, although the epee squad won 5-4. Carolina epee also won 5-4 against No. 9 Duke, although the Tar Heels fell 16-11.
Carolina then bounced back to cap the day with another 14-13 win, this one over Johns Hopkins.
The Tar Heels are fourth among teams receiving votes in the latest CollegeFencing360 Coaches Poll, released on Friday. Brandeis is fifth among those receiving votes.
Next up for the Carolina men is the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Feb. 24-25. UNC will host the event in Carmichael Arena.
