Battle at the Beach Day 3
Tar Heels Finish Tied For 11th In Mexico

SAN JOSE DEL CABO, MEXICO - The North Carolina women's golf team finished the Battle at the Beach tied for 11th Sunday. The Tar Heels shot 10-over for the round, bringing their tournament total to 36-over par.
Bryana Nguyen was the top finisher for the Tar Heels on the weekend, powered by a career-low 68 in the first round Friday. Nguyen shot a 4-over 75 Sunday to wrap up the tournament at 5-over par.
Kelly Whaley led the way for the Tar Heels Sunday, using 13 pars and three birdies to score a 1-under 70 for her lowest round of the season. She tied for 33rd place at 6-over for the tournament.
Mariana Ocano had her best effort of the tournament Sunday, as she shot a 3-over 74 to bring her total to 17-over par and tie for 66th. Brynn Walker rounded out the scoring in the final round for the Tar Heels by shooting a 75. She tied for 53rd place at 13-over par.
Ava Bergner shot 5-over on the day to bring her tournament total to 14-over par, good to be tied for 56th place.
Top-ranked UCLA made a roaring comeback in the final round Sunday to claim the Battle at the Beach title. Shooting 12-under on the day, the Bruins topped Oklahoma who had held a five-shot advantage following each of the first two rounds of competition. Powered by 56 birdies, UCLA capped the tournament at 13-under par.
Lilia Vu of UCLA won the individual tournament title by one shot over Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest. Vu shot 8-under-par 205 to claim the victory.
Next Up: The Battle at the Beach was Carolina's final fall tournament. The Tar Heels will head into the offseason with much to build on, particularly the record-setting performances at the Tar Heel Invitational. Carolina will return to action Feb. 18-20 in New Orleans, La., at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate.
