CHAPEL HILL—North Carolina men's basketball players Marcus Paige and Sasha Seymore were among the inductees announced this spring as UNC's Order of the Golden Fleece, Carolina's oldest honorary society, tapped its newest members.
Members are selected based upon service to Carolina, as reflected in scholarship, motivation, creativity, loyalty, and leadership in academic and extracurricular pursuits. Founded in 1904 to unite student leaders at UNC, inductees are generally seniors but juniors, graduate students, faculty and alumni also eligible for membership.
Paige, a double-major in history and journalism and mass communication, is a junior and a two-time Academic All-America. In 2015, he won the Skip Prosser Award as the top scholar-athlete in Atlantic Coast Conference basketball.
Seymore, who joined the Tar Heel varsity team prior to the 2014-15 season, was Carolina's 2014-15 senior class president. He attends UNC on a prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship. Last fall, Seymore won a Mitchell Scholarship that will allow him to attend graduate school in Ireland next year.
“The Order of the Golden Fleece is certainly welcoming two outstanding new members in Marcus Paige and Sasha Seymore," says Tar Heel head coach Roy Williams. "The Golden Fleece recognizes students of high character who have made a lasting impact on the University and you can't find two young men who fit that description any better. They are exceptional young men who excel academically and have a passion to succeed in all aspects of their lives. Marcus has been one of the top basketball players in the country over the past three seasons and a two-time Academic All-America. Sasha has been a wonderful addition to our program and has made significant contributions to student government.”
